Who may join?
Central Otago / Queenstown Lakes Libraries are partially funded by ratepayers. Library membership is free for ratepayers of the Central Otago or Queenstown Lakes districts. Residents who have been living in either district for six months or more are also entitled to free membership.
For new residents or longer term visitors a temporary membership is available with a $40 bond. Reciprocal membership is available to visitors who will be in the area for 1 month or less and who are members of another library. A small fee is payable.
After joining you receive a library card that is valid in all libraries in the district.
How to join
You will need to come into the library to join. Please bring along the following documentation with you:
- ID showing your name and signature, such as a driver's licence, passport, or ID card. (This is not required for a child membership)
- A document showing that you have been residing in the district for the last 6 months, e.g. a bank statement, wage slip or account with your name and address on it (must be dated at least 6 months ago), or a property rates notice. (NOT required for a temporary or reciprocal membership).
How many items can I borrow?
This depends on the type of membership you have.
