Come in and check our computer catalogue system for information on all items available within our district. If an item is not in this branch we are often able to source it from one of our other branches. Purchasing recommendations will be considered by the Library Services Manager.
Our library offers a full selection of resources with some unique to the Wanaka branch:
Archives - The Archives Room in the Wanaka Library is operated by the Upper Clutha Historical Records Society and is purpose built to provide secure storage and protection from deterioration and damage of archival records from the Upper Clutha area. The Upper Clutha Historical Records Society opens the room to the public on the last friday of every month between 2.00 pm and 4.30 pm and, for special enquiries, with prior notification to library staff.
Electoral Rolls - The Tai Tonga Main Roll is held in the reference area of the Wanaka Library, plus electoral rolls for Clutha - Southland, Dunedin North, Dunedin South, Invercargill, Otago, West Coast - Tasman, and the Ratepayer Electoral Rolls for the Queenstown Lakes District Council. All national rolls can be viewed at NZ Post Ltd, 4 The Mall, Cromwell.
Genealogy - Resources of the Wanaka branch of the NZ Society of Genealogists are held in the local history section of Wanaka Library. Please contact Lynette Duncan at 03 443 8577.
Local History Collection - This is a collection of books, including some unpublished material, relating to the history of the area centred on the Lakes District. These items are for use in the library only, although some duplicate copies may be available in the lending collection.
National Geographic Magazines - The district collection of National Geographic magazines is held at Wanaka Library. Magazines date from 1966 to the present and are available for one week loans.
 Newsletter - "Whats New At Wanaka Library", published bi-monthly, provides news and events from the library, book reviews and includes special pages for children. Copies are available from all combined libraries within the district.
Newspapers - Wanaka Library offers a selection of newspapers including: The Lakes District and Central Otago News, The Messenger, The Mirror, The Otago Daily Times, The Press, The Southland Times, and on line access to some national newspapers, including The Herald.
Pembroke Collection - Old books from the original Wanaka Library collection are displayed in glass-fronted cabinets situated in the local history section of the library. Items from this collection can be viewed in the library only. |
