Background
You can find us on Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons at the front corner of the Clyde Memorial Hall. Come and see one of Clyde’s best-kept secrets!

This little library has been quietly ticking away here for decades. It was known in the 1950’s as the Clyde Memorial Hall Library. A children’s library was proposed to be established in 1962. Later this was merged with the adults’ library. Locals in their 40s and older remember coming here as children. Clyde Library was run by willing volunteers for much of this time, and funded by whatever donations and grants could be found.

Since 2002, the Central Otago District Council has funded this library, meaning we can buy more and newer books, and open longer hours, plus buy some fresh furniture. We are kindly given $1000 worth of books by the J & E Hazlett Trust every year. We have mostly used this to upgrade the children’s section.

Resources
We have small but strong adult and children’s fiction and non-fiction collections.

New Books - New books are available to read as soon as they are processed and released into the library collection. They are initially displayed on a display stand at the entrance to the library. You can often find a new book here you would have to wait weeks for in Dunedin.

Services
Clyde Library is part of the shared Library service for Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes Libraries so you can use your card here.

Check the library catalogue for information on resources available within our district. If an item is not in the Clyde Library we can often source it from one of the 13 other branches or “interloan” it from another library in New Zealand.

Preschool Storytime - Come and see Naomi’s show! - 10am Tuesday

Summer and Winter Reading Challenges - Every Summer and (almost) every Winter holidays we organise a Reading Challenge. This is open to children of all ages.

Children decide on a personal target of books they will read during the holiday break. For pre-schoolers, parents must read a minimum of 20 books. Meet your target and win a prize!
