Background
The Maniototo School / Community Library opened in June 2000 and is located alongside the Maniototo Area School in Ranfurly.

The Maniototo Community Library is a joint venture between the Area School and the Central Otago District Council, which works well to maximise the availability of all resources to the community. It is also part of the shared library service for Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes.

The library is a bright, friendly place where community and school come together. There are often displays of pupils’ work and may varied forms of art on show.

The library is well stocked with a varied and up-to-date selection of adult fiction and non-fiction including magazines, DVDs and talking books.

Children are well catered for with picture books, puzzles, a large collection of children’s non-fiction, and novels for children and young adults.

Krum the library cat also gets involved in the activities and is usually on hand to greet patrons.

Resources
As you would expect for a combined school/community library, we have strong Children and Young Adult collections, as well as good fiction and non-fiction collections for adults. We also have a good range of movies available for loan.

New Books - Once new books have been processed they are displayed on two new book stands and available for immediate loan.

Electoral Rolls - The Otago electoral rolls are available.

Local Government - Central Otago District Council meeting agendas and district plan information and Otago Regional Council notifications are available.

Services
Come in and check our computer catalogue system for information on all items available within our district.

Maniototo School / Community Library is part of the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes shared Library service. Services, membership, borrowing and issuing policies are consistent across the CODC / QLDC Library District.

This means users can access and borrow material from any of the other 13 libraries in the district. If an item is not in the district we will try to “interloan” it from another library in New Zealand. Just ask a librarian for assistance.

Children’s Services
Events - From time to time special events are held at the library e.g. visiting Storytellers, Santa Claus

Summer and Winter Reading Challenges - Every summer and (almost) every winter holidays we orga nise a Reading Challenge. This is open to children of all ages.

Children decide on a personal target of books they will read during the holiday break. For pre-schoolers, parents must read a minimum of 20 books. All those who meet their target will receive a prize.
