Background The library is a bright, friendly place where community and school come together.
The Millers Flat library was officially opened in November 2002. It was built after the Board of Trustees and Parent Teachers’ Association recognised the need for a stand alone library facility for the pupils. As a result funding was obtained with a requirement for community access.
We have all the facilities that you would expect to find in the CODC/QLDC libraries. The Library has been staffed a small group of Volunteers since it opened, an arrangement that has worked very well.
We invite you to come along and have a look. You may be surprised and will certainly be made welcome.
Resources As you would expect for a combined school/community library, we have strong Children and Young Adult collections, as well as good fiction and non-fiction colle ctions for adults.
Alexandra Library provides books from their collection on a 3 month loan. This, along with a recently granted book budget, allows us to keep book stock up to date.
Services Millers Flat School / Community Library is part of the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes shared Library service. Services, membership, borrowing and issuing policies are consistent across the CODC / QLDC Library District.
This means users can access and borrow material from any of the other 13 libraries in the district. If an item is not in the district we will try to “interloan” it from another library in New Zealand.
A computer is available with broadband Internet access and for browsing the library catalogue.
Children’s Services Summer and Winter Reading Challenges Every summer and (almost) every winter holidays we organise a Reading Challenge. This is open to children of all ages.
Children decide on a personal target of books they will read during the holiday break. For pre-schoolers, parents must read a minimum of 20 books. All those who meet their target will receive a prize. |
