Background
The Omakau School / Community Library is located in the main building of the Omakau School, between the two classrooms.

The library was opened to the community on March 26th 1987; it was recently renovated. It houses a wide range of picture books, fiction, non-fiction and adult reading material.

Omakau School continues to purchase new material to add to the collection. Alexandra Library also provides a rotating collection.

The Library is run by a Committee of volunteers who maintain and organise the library.

Services
Omakau Community Library is part of the shared Library service for the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes Libraries. Services, membership, borrowing and issuing policies are consistent across the CODC / QLDC Library District.

This means users can access and borrow material from any of the other 13 libraries in the district. If an item is not in the district we will try to “interloan” it from another library in New Zealand.

New Books
Once ‘new’ books have been processed and released into the library collection they displayed on the shelves below the magazines and are available for immediate loan.
